Sam Altman returns to OpenAI
San Francisco. In the final twist to the OpenAI saga, Sam Altman said Wednesday he is returning to the company that developed ChatGPIT in collaboration with the new board and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
In a post on X he told: "When I decided to join Microsoft on Sunday evening, it was clear this was the best path for me and the team," he posted.
"With the support of the new board and Nadella, I look forward to returning to OpenAI and building on our strong partnership with Microsoft," he said.
OpenAI said it has reached an agreement in principle for Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with the new initial board of Brett Taylor (President), Larry Summers and Adam D'Angelo.
Nadella said he was encouraged by the changes to the OpenAI board.
"We believe this is an essential first step toward more stable, informed and effective governance," Nadella posted on Twitter. Sam, Greg and I have talked and agreed that, along with the OAI leadership team, they have an important role to play in ensuring that OAI continues its mission and moves forward.
“We look forward to building on our strong partnership and delivering the value of this next generation of AI to our customers and partners,” he said.
Nadella had announced that Altman and OpenAI co-founder and former president Greg Brockman would be joining the company to run its advanced AI research team.
